Aren’t Mornings Typical?

Wake up. Turn on the lamp, turn off the sound machine. Wipe the sleep from my eyes. Put on my glasses. Throw hair back in a clip. Pull covers back. Swing legs to side of the bed. Slip on pajama pants and slippers. Walk to the living room. Cross the living room. Open nursery door. Pick up Goose and Goose’s blankie. Set him down, screaming. Pick up Opi. Walk out to the living room. Go into the kitchen. Make bottle for Opi. Shake the bottle to completely mix. Grab pop tart and sippy cup for Goose. Walk to living room. Set Opi down with his bottle. Sit with Goose while he eats his pop tart. Get up and reposition bottle for Opi. Brush off pop tart crumbs. Turn on The Lorax. Watch five minutes. Reposition bottle for Opi. Sit back down with Goose and said pop tart. Brush away crumbs again. Sing entrance song to The Lorax. Elevate my feet. Watch another five minutes. Burp Opi after his bottle. Clean up the spit up. Set Opi in his jumper. Go to kitchen. Pour water in coffee pot to brew. Put in a filter. Add a few hearty scoops of coffee. Shut top of coffee pot and push start. Inhale the first few fumes of fresh coffee. Pull my pants back up from the toddler clinging to them. Walk out to living room. Pick up screaming Opi. Walk over pop tart crumbs. Hold Opi until he’s happy. Try to put him back down. Screams again. Walk away with the thought to get stuff done. Opi still screaming. Watch Goose unload the toy box. Sigh heavily. Get up and walk to kitchen. Pour coffee into cup. Mix with creamer. Take first sip, temporarily feel the realness of heaven. Hear Opi screaming. Walk out of kitchen. Walk to chair and sit down. Continue to watch Goose tear apart my house. Sigh heavily again. Sip more coffee. Take a deep breath. Remember I love this craziness. Pray to say thank you for this life. Smile until my cheeks hurt. Cuddle with both babies. Love this beautiful chaos.
